This is version II of a current renovation of a split-foyer home built in 1961 in the Kemp Mill Estates area of Wheaton, MD. Using a minimalist approach and working within an extremely tight budget, the proposed design improves the circulation of the floor plan, upgrades the master bathroom, increases the amount of natural light and incorporates accessibility features (such as a curbless shower and wider doorways) for aging in-place. The renovation will also significantly improve the energy efficiency of the home by increasing the amount of insulation in the walls and in the attic, replacing the doors and windows with energy efficient units and adding exterior sun shading devices to reduce the heat gain from the sun during the summer.
